Travelling to Paignton

Paignton is one of the easier holiday resorts to access in Devon, with fast road links most of the way towards the town, and a direct train service.

Located in central South Devon on the coast, Paignton can be reached by car from the M5 then A380 into Newton Abbot. At this point, the road becomes single lane through Kingkerswell which can be very slow during peak times (and non-peak times if you are unlucky).  On an average day it’s around 1 ½ to 2 hours from Bristol.

Paignton train station is in the centre of town and is a scenic way to begin your holiday.  The last leg of the train journey from Exeter follows the coastline in part, down the Exe estuary through Dawlish and Teignmouth.  Direct services from London, Birmingham and North East England terminate in Paignton.  Train enthusiasts arriving in Paignton can then jump on the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway, which shares the station.

If you want to fly down to Paignton for a holiday, Exeter and Plymouth airports are both around 45 minutes away by hire car or transfer.
