Hidden yet so convenient for Paignton centre. This is one beach that you almost want to keep secret for locals and explorers. Fairy Cove isn’t in the tourist guides but offers a practical location with amenities within walking distance.
At the corner of Paignton harbour, past the dry-stored dinghies and the seafood distributor, steps lead down onto Fairy Cove. It’s not visible to many, tucked around the corner from the harbour and surrounded by cliffs making this the only access to the beach.
Being next to the harbour means there are plenty of amenities, even if they are a short walk away. Around the harbour there is a newsagent/convenience store, and ice-cream shop, beach goods shop and restaurants, plus toilets and Harbour Sports where kayaks and other watersports equipment can be bought.
Access to the Beach
As mentioned there are steps from the corner of Paignton harbour leading down onto the beach, not too many so it is possible to carry a buggy down onto the beach for example. There is a multi-storey car park above the harbour and on-street parking in the area, which means you can be on the beach within 5 minutes.
On the Beach
Fairy Cove is a stony beach set, like so many of the beaches in South Devon, in a sheltered cove so ideal for swimming. There are also rock pools to explore.
